No login needed to send email.

An interesting thing seems to be happening. If I supply an incorrect username and/or password in the SMTPlogin/password properties and send, the mail still gets sent! I just tried sending an email to myself, logging into my local email server with incorrect login details. an error only seems to be trapped if the SMTP host is incorrect.

Answer:

It must be that your SMTP server does not require authentication. This is common if you are behind a firewall that blocks port 25.
